Our weekly lunch fee will be raised, one thin dollar, from current $11.00 to $12.00 with the move to The Courtyard. Denny Walsh immediately voiced concern to the Club, over the menu selection of “Soup and Salad,” hoping there would be sandwich and other menu selections. Pres. Mary advised we will start with this menu, evaluating as we go, making modifications, should they be necessary, once we’ve established who wishes for what and costs of same, to the Club membership. Deputy Jacobs been with the Sheriff’s Dept. 19 years and heads the Sexual Predator Division for Butler County. ( Deputy Jacobs was taking names as he manned the podium. Hope they like Rick’s Veggie Burgers.) Deputy Jacobs shared his role of tracking 609 Sexual Predators, registered and living in Butler County. 214 of them are currently in jail. He explained there are three tiers of offenders:Tier 1 – Low Level Offender – required to report one time per year for 25 yrs.Tier 2 – Medium Level Offender – required to report twice per year for 25 yrs.Tier 3 – High Level Offender – required to report every 90 days for life. Mike explained each offender must register within three days of moving to a community, notifying that community of their residence should they move anyplace. It’s incumbent on the Sheriff’s office to notify all residents within a 1200 foot radius of the offender’s residence, they have moved to that place. Offenders are not permitted to move within 1,000 feet of a school, daycare or place where children are gathered. Should a school bus stop be within that 1,000 foot space of the offender’s residence, that bus stop will be relocated to be compliant. Mike further stated offenders are 75% male, 25% female. They are from all walks of life and can be perpetrators of heterosexual or homosexual nature, involving children or adults, in a deviate nature. Laws continue to change and keeping up on the changes is critical, ensuring safety of our citizens. Butler Co. is fourth highest population of offenders in the State. Cayahoga, Franklin and Hamilton counties lead. Convicted Offenders, have some privacy protection, under current law. The Sheriff’s Dept. can share some limited information with citizens regarding offenders, but, the police agency must be compliant by law, not sharing protected information. The Adam Walsh Law, ( Adam, age six, was abducted and killed in SE Florida, son of John and Revae Walsh) is a national law, protecting predominantly children, from offenders and punishing offenders to the fullest extent of the law, when prosecuted. Lastly, Deputy Jacobs pleaded with parents to be so aware of Internet, Chat Room, Face Book, Sexting, concerns. He said there is a staff person of the Sheriff’s office who weekly, goes on line deliberately, engaging in conversation with teens, arranging a meeting with that teen to show how easy a perpetrator can and will solicit an innocent, into a potential relationship and potential DISASTROUS outcome. As Deputy Jacobs stated, “Trust no-one. Keep your doors locked.” Deputy Jacobs fielded a few important questions and received a warm round of applause for his enlightening speech and commentary on this growing dilemma. Pres. Mary asked for announcements… Joe Belew thanked the Club for our moment of silence in remembering his mother, as well as the care of Colonial / Westover staff, over these recent five years and that of Bob Weigel and his staff, as they deal with Mrs. Belew’s funeral these next days.
