HAMILTON ROTARY CLUB BULLETIN JULY 23, 2009 THE WEEK THAT WAS...For her third week, our new Prez #4 Cindy or Cynthia Stever was becoming very professional and hit the bell like a pro. She then asked Rev. Sam Wyatt to do the prayer and pledge (need I say more). GUESTS, VISITING ROTARIANS, ETC...Ann Antenen then introduced the guests and VR’s. VR’s included Flo Wyant from the island of St. Croix and Dr. Bob Lerer from the “island of Fairfield”. Guests were: Roy Cline with Bob Lerer, David Wyant with Flo, Brian Dickson with Kenny Craig, and Marc Bellisario was the guest of Jeffrey Diver. ANNOUNCEMENTS...Dr. Bob Lerer presented New Prez #4 a certificate for the clubs assistance in 1995 in sending Doctors and medical supplies to countries in need (we know Dr. Bob is dedicated but not too punctual). If memory serves me, Cordelia Millikin, Dan’s wife volunteered on several of those trips.Flo Wyant, of the aforementioned St. Croix, presented the to the aforementioned new Prez #4 with her club’s flag to hang on the late Bob Weber’s flag rack. The aforementioned Prez again announced the Aug 19th Rotary Trilogy (mostly for eager officers, board members and other wanna bees) at the Wilks Center. And Jim Fitton is still throwing out the first pitch at the Hamilton Joe’s game (see last weeks bulleting for further information). This maybe a conundrum but New Prez reminded the “Perfect Attendance” winners who missed last week, that they could pick up their awards at the sign-in table (see last weeks bulletin for more details).SERGENT-AT-ARMS RUNS AMOK...SAA JOE BELEW literally fined everyone in the room. If he didn’t have a newspaper photo, he faked one. He fined Cal Lingler for having a mistake in the new directory (Cal was later overheard mumbling that that was the page Maryann proofread). He even had the audacity to fine the bulletin editor, but that was quickly resolved. With Joe’s stack and about 100 “Happy Bucks” people, Joe probably made a record haul (maybe they were all so happy that our speaker had bombs and no side arms).GETTING TO KNOW YOU FINALLY...Teri Whitmore finally got to do her thing. It seems she was born in Rapid City SD (no wondered she ended up in beautiful southern Ohio). After graduating from the U of Washington she worked with the mentally disturbed and with some animal clinics. All this certainly made her the ideal person to run Hamilton’s planning department.A name was drawn for next week, but alas, they are no longer in the club, so Denny Walsh was “volunteered”.THE PROGRAM...Keith (no store) Nott, the July Program Person, introduced his last program, Mike Grimes of the Butler Co. Sheriff’s Bomb Squad. Mike explained the training necessary to identify various suspicious things that are reported around the county. He has over thirty-five years of experience, that’s a lot of bombs. They also assist Warren County and Cincinnati police in addition to the FBI and ATF folks. They average two calls a week and yes, they had a pipe bomb to deal with this past week.Joe Brandabur pulled out a WWII German grenade and waved it around. Mike wasn’t concerned but several members ducked under the tables.Apparently the backsliders were all paid up, as the New Prez didn’t have Mike call for any volunteers. Keith had another great program and one that certainly didn’t “bomb”. THE WEEK TO COME...Next week, New Prez #4 is presenting the much-acclaimed Club Assembly! In all fairness, I think it’s something that presidents have to do. But the good news is (?) the Chef will have fried chicken, potato salad, bread and Chef’s dessert. So take an extra closteral pill and come on for the fellowship at least. Editor: Ken Snyder, who wonders what lies at the bottom of the ocean and twitches? A nervous wreck. Live well, laugh often.
HAMILTON ROTARY CLUB BULLETIN JULY 9, 2009 THE WEEK THAT WAS...As the first new week of our Rotary year was ushered in, our 91st Prez of the Hamilton Club, Cindy, Cynth, Cynthia Stever opened the meeting with a mighty gong of the bell (she’s been practicing). Her first official direction was to call on Dick Haid to do the prayer and pledge. Succeeding with that she further instructed Vickie Barger to announce the guests and VR’s. Only one VR, Dan Hare of Fairfield. Guests included: Marc Bellisario with Jeff Diver and Mag Baker had her granddaughter Lexi Ankrum with her.SAGE ADVISE FOR THE NEW ONE...As our 4th Prez of the fair sex, you don’t have to shush everybody like Mary Pat, or spend as much money as Nancy, or always have the debit side toward the windows like Mary. Do your own thing. I will share a comment that the late Jay Antenen told me when I became Prez # 70. He asked if I had great plans for the club and I said no. He replied that a year wasn’t enough time to change the club and certainly not long enough to do much damage.Cynthia, have a great year.ANNOUNCEMENTS...The new Prez had to brag about the new directories (with purple covers) that were available and not six months into the year (was that Joe Belew?) like some Prezes. She also announced that the District News Letter was now available on the internet (Oh Joy!) and if you aren’t hooked up, you can get a laminated copy at the meeting. She also advised that she is working on an expanded menu, probably will be adding cornbread to the bean soup. Also on July 30th, we will have a club assembly (ho hum). And last but not least (?) August 19th will be a District Trilogy (what ever that is) at the Wilks Center.Ms Prez also gave an up-date on Lisa Warren and asked that we keep her in our prayers.GETTING TO KNOW YOU, OR NOT...Frank Margello was supposed to tell all about himself but chickened out and the Prez stuck Teri Whitmore with the job for next week. Way to go Frank!THE PROGRAM...Keith (I can save you 30%) Nott, the Program Person for July, came forth and announced his speaker, Liberty Township Police Chief Richard St. John. The Chief, resplendent in his dress uniform, including side arm, started his 25-year police career in Fairfield, and joined the Liberty Township force in 2000. He described the many changes since 2000 when the Liberty population was 15,000 and now is upwards of 22,000. He told of the difficulties in passing a police levy as opposed to a fire levy (everyone likes firemen). He also explained how the great minds in Columbus have changed “DUI” to “OVI” (operating a vehicle intoxicated).THE INFAMOUS SGT. AT ARMS...Old Joe Belew was in fine fiddle and practically fined everyone in the room. He did a lot better than Margot Halcomb who won the paltry Split-the-Pot of only $14.THE WEEK TO COME...Program Person Nott, will present Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Baker and his K9 Unit. We were assured that the dogs are well trained and only sniff out Cadillacs (so Lingler better come in a cab). Editor: Ken Snyder, who wonders what’s the difference between a bad golfer and a bad skydiver? The golfer goes Whack, Dang! The skydiver goes Dang! Whack.
Dear Rotarian friends,Please find attached the first district newsletter for the new Rotary year. There are several "new features"... First of all the district newsletter from now on will only be distributed electronically. This means that the "contact persons" in every club are asked to forward the newsletter to all the members of their club. It might be helpful to print a few newsletters out for those who do not "do email". Secondly, thanks to Sue Hebner of the Springfield club, we have a new lay-out and a new title for the newsletter. Hope you will like it.Also, I really want to encourage all the clubs to send me articles for the newsletter... this newsletter is not about me, it is about you and your club. Let everybody else know about all the great things you do in your club!!! Write me a note and I will include your article in the next newsletter.Looking forward to a great Rotary year.
