HAMILTON ROTARY CLUB BULLETIN JULY 9, 2009

THE WEEK THAT WAS...
As the first new week of our Rotary year was ushered in, our 91st Prez of the Hamilton Club, Cindy, Cynth, Cynthia Stever opened the meeting with a mighty gong of the bell (she’s been practicing).
Her first official direction was to call on Dick Haid to do the prayer and pledge.  Succeeding with that she further instructed Vickie Barger to announce the guests and VR’s.
Only one VR, Dan Hare of Fairfield.  Guests included: Marc Bellisario with Jeff Diver and Mag Baker had her granddaughter Lexi Ankrum with her.
SAGE ADVISE FOR THE NEW ONE...
As our 4th Prez of the fair sex, you don’t have to shush everybody like Mary Pat, or spend as much money as Nancy, or always have the debit side toward the windows like Mary.  Do your own thing.
I will share a comment that the late Jay Antenen told me when I became Prez  # 70.  He asked if I had great plans for the club and I said no.  He replied that a year wasn’t enough time to change the club and certainly not long enough to do much damage.
Cynthia, have a great year.
ANNOUNCEMENTS...
The new Prez had to brag about the new directories (with purple covers) that were available and not six months into the year (was that Joe Belew?) like some Prezes.
She also announced that the District News Letter was now available on the internet (Oh Joy!) and if you aren’t hooked up, you can get a laminated copy at the meeting.  She also advised that she is working on an expanded menu, probably will be adding cornbread to the bean soup.
Also on July 30th, we will have a club assembly (ho hum).  And last but not least (?) August 19th will be a District Trilogy (what ever that is) at the Wilks Center.
Ms Prez also gave an up-date on Lisa Warren and asked that we keep her in our prayers.
GETTING TO KNOW YOU, OR NOT...
Frank Margello was supposed to tell all about himself but chickened out and the Prez stuck Teri Whitmore with the job for next week.  Way to go Frank!
THE PROGRAM...
Keith (I can save you 30%) Nott, the Program Person for July, came forth and announced his speaker, Liberty Township Police Chief Richard St. John.  The Chief, resplendent in his dress uniform, including side arm, started his 25-year police career in Fairfield, and joined the Liberty Township force in 2000.  He described the many changes since 2000 when the Liberty population was 15,000 and now is upwards of 22,000.  He told of the difficulties in passing a police levy as opposed to a fire levy (everyone likes firemen).  He also explained how the great minds in Columbus have changed “DUI” to “OVI” (operating a vehicle intoxicated).
THE INFAMOUS SGT. AT ARMS...
Old Joe Belew was in fine fiddle and practically fined everyone in the room.  He did a lot better than Margot Halcomb who won the paltry Split-the-Pot of only $14.
THE WEEK TO COME...
Program Person Nott, will present Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Baker and his K9 Unit.  We were assured that the dogs are well trained and only sniff out Cadillacs (so Lingler better come in a cab).

Editor: Ken Snyder, who wonders what’s the difference between a bad golfer and a bad skydiver?  The golfer goes Whack, Dang!  The skydiver goes Dang! Whack.
