HAMILTON ROTARY CLUB BULLETIN JULY 23, 2009

THE WEEK THAT WAS...
For her third week, our new Prez #4 Cindy or Cynthia Stever was becoming very professional and hit the bell like a pro.  She then asked Rev. Sam Wyatt to do the prayer and pledge (need I say more).
GUESTS, VISITING ROTARIANS, ETC...
Ann Antenen then introduced the guests and VR’s.  VR’s included Flo Wyant from the island of St. Croix and Dr. Bob Lerer from the “island of Fairfield”.
Guests were: Roy Cline with Bob Lerer, David Wyant with Flo, Brian Dickson with Kenny Craig, and Marc Bellisario was the guest of Jeffrey Diver.
ANNOUNCEMENTS...
Dr. Bob Lerer presented New Prez #4 a certificate for the clubs assistance in 1995 in sending Doctors and medical supplies to countries in need (we know Dr. Bob is dedicated but not too punctual).  If memory serves me, Cordelia Millikin, Dan’s wife volunteered on several of those trips.
Flo Wyant, of the aforementioned St. Croix, presented the to the aforementioned new Prez #4 with her club’s flag to hang on the late Bob Weber’s flag rack.
The aforementioned Prez again announced the Aug 19th Rotary Trilogy (mostly for eager officers, board members and other wanna bees) at the Wilks Center.
And Jim Fitton is still throwing out the first pitch at the Hamilton Joe’s game (see last weeks bulleting for further information).
This maybe a conundrum but New Prez reminded the “Perfect Attendance” winners who missed last week, that they could pick up their awards at the sign-in table (see last weeks bulletin for more details).

SERGENT-AT-ARMS RUNS AMOK...
SAA JOE BELEW literally fined everyone in the room.  If he didn’t have a newspaper photo, he faked one.  He fined Cal Lingler for having a mistake in the new directory (Cal was later overheard mumbling that that was the page Maryann proofread).  He even had the audacity to fine the bulletin editor, but that was quickly resolved.  With Joe’s stack and about 100 “Happy Bucks” people, Joe probably made a record haul (maybe they were all so happy that our speaker had bombs and no side arms).
GETTING TO KNOW YOU FINALLY...
Teri Whitmore finally got to do her thing.  It seems she was born in Rapid City SD (no wondered she ended up in beautiful southern Ohio).  After graduating from the U of Washington she worked with the mentally disturbed and with some animal clinics.  All this certainly made her the ideal person to run Hamilton’s planning department.
A name was drawn for next week, but alas, they are no longer in the club, so Denny Walsh was “volunteered”.
THE PROGRAM...
Keith (no store) Nott, the July Program Person, introduced his last program, Mike Grimes of the Butler Co. Sheriff’s Bomb Squad.  Mike explained the training necessary to identify various suspicious things that are reported around the county.  He has over thirty-five years of experience, that’s a lot of bombs.
They also assist Warren County and Cincinnati police in addition to the FBI and ATF folks.
They average two calls a week and yes, they had a pipe bomb to deal with this past week.
Joe Brandabur pulled out a WWII German grenade and waved it around.  Mike wasn’t concerned but several members ducked under the tables.
Apparently the backsliders were all paid up, as the New Prez didn’t have Mike call for any volunteers.  Keith had another great program and one that certainly didn’t “bomb”.
THE WEEK TO COME...
Next week, New Prez #4 is presenting the much-acclaimed Club Assembly!  In all fairness, I think it’s something that presidents have to do.  But the good news is (?) the Chef will have fried chicken, potato salad, bread and Chef’s dessert.  So take an extra closteral pill and come on for the fellowship at least.

Editor: Ken Snyder, who wonders what lies at the bottom of the ocean and twitches?  A nervous wreck.  Live well, laugh often.
