HAMILTON ROTARY MINUTES  for August 6, 2009
President  Cynthia  opened the meeting and Frank Margello led the prayer and pledge.
There were no guests but Hans and Ute Papke were Rotarians visiting from the Cincinnati Club.  Mae Berkel came with Hans and is from the Centerville Club.
There was no “Getting to know you” speaker this week.  I guess we needed a break from the wild tales and personal details of Rotarians’ “real” lives!
Announcements:
There is still time to sign up for the District Trilogy, scheduled for 8/19 at Wilkes, MU.
Help out Polio Plus and buy tickets for the Red’s game 8/28.  $30 per ticket.  Contact Hans Berkel, 1778 West Rahn Road, Dayton, Ohio 45459 for tickets.  Invite friends, neighbors, etc.
New Member Orientation will be held next week at 11:00 on Thursday before Rotary, down the hall from where we meet.  Good opportunity for those needing credit for their blue badge, as well as new members.
Speaking of Blue Badges, Congrats goes to Father Tim who received his blue badge this week!  (We think he must have had Divine help since he got it so quickly!)
Last week we talked about Rotary Facebook and Twitter.  Here are the sites:

Program:
We were privileged to have the District Governor, Hans Berkel speak to us today.  His mantra is “Be a Rotarian, not just a member of Rotary”!  The Rotary theme this year is “The Future of Rotary is in your Hands”.  His talk included his version of the “bucket list”.  The top 4 things he’d like us to accomplish are:
1.      Finish the job of eradicating polio
2.     Increase membership and support the international foundation. He challenged us to each contribute $50 to that foundation this year.
3.     Spread the word about Rotary
4.     Re-“invent” our involvement in Rotary

He distributed gifts which included special pins.  He expects a $10 fine for those not wearing their pins next week.
Speaking of fines, our Sarge at Arms is in Hilton Head, so someone will have to tell him about the fines…he’ll have to pay as well!  (of course, we can add to that and tell him that anyone with a new tan and sand in their shoes must pay extra!)
Happy Bucks-  By the number of happy bucks, I’d say we are a “one” on the happiness scale this week.  Maybe next week will be better.
Split the Pot- Jeff Diver picked a losing card. (No, I did not call Jeff a “loser”!  He’s a nicer guy than that!)
Next Week’s Program: Speaker will be Stephanie Hancock, our Rotary Exchange Student.  She will be talking about her stay in Thailand.
Menu next week: soup and salad bar (2 soups and salad with assorted toppings, bread and a dessert of the Chef’s choice.
Special note:
The following individual has been proposed to the Board of Directors for membership to our club:
Marc Bellisario
CEO, Butler County Community Health Consortium
Classification:  Community Health
Proposers:  Jeff Diver

Any objections to membership should be presented to the Board in writing within 10 days.

Respectfully submitted, Chris Hurr
Have a great week!
