Hamilton Rotary Minutes for August 13, 2009
President Cynthia called the meeting to order at 1210. Marcia Koenig led the prayer and pledge. The prayer and a moment of silence were in memory of Donna Carruthers and in support of Pat and Sara.
Visiting Rotarian: Fred Browen from Oxford
Guests: Rick Bethart’s guest was his lovely wife Paula
Bob Hancock’s guests were his wife Beth and daughter Stephanie. Stephanie was also our program.
Announcements:
Lisa Warren is back and she’s looking great!
The District Trilogy is Wednesday, August 19th at the Wilks Conference Center at Miami of Hamilton.
Don’t forget Polio Night at the Reds. Our District Governor desires at least $525.00 from our club for Polio Plus. Pres. Cynthia strong armed those present for a buck apiece.
Family Day at the Farm, (no not the bar on SR 27), with the Rotary Olympics will be September 27th.
George Jonson informed everyone of the upcoming Community Character Forum on Tuesday, August 25th 7pm at Parrish Auditorium. Dr. Hal Urban will be discussing what he calls “old-fashioned goodness”.
George also invited us to the “Open Houses” for our new 4 elementary schools which will be opening this year.
Program:
Bob Hancock introduced his daughter Stephanie. Stephanie has been in Thailand for the past 11 months. She presented a slide show showing her host families, the country, many temples and the activities she did. She hates spicy foods. She also stated there is nothing enjoyable about a 26-hour flight.
Highlights:
You can go to temple any day of the week you want.
School requires uniforms and the teacher is in absolute control.
Lots of rock climbing.
Families are very close. Both in relationship and distant. Usually within 3 blocks.
Very respectful culture. Senior citizens are shown great respect.
I kind of like Thailand.
School Board Member George Jonson presented Stephanie with her diploma from Hamilton High School. Not bad, skip school for 11 months and still graduate!
Stephanie will be entering Miami of Hamilton for one year and then will be going to The Ohio State University. Good luck Stephanie!
Sergeant at Arms:
Pres. Cynthia shunned Joe.
Happy Bucks:
Bill Hartford: 5-bucks for Stephanie representing our club in Thailand.
Jim Fitton: 5-bucks for his daughter Emily and her acceptance to Miami University.
Maureen Noe: 5-bucks for the upcoming United Way regional merger meeting.
George Jonson: 5-bucks for his grandson’s 11-year old West Side Little League team that won the State and for the West Side Little League team that is currently playing in the LL Regional play in Indianapolis.
Split the Pot:
Bill Hartford won but he did not get the big bucks.
The next “Getting to Know You” will be Rick Jones.
Meeting adjourned at 1242
Respectfully submitted,
Steve Timmer for Chris Hurr
